Hey everyone, welcome back to What's Up NBBC! I'm Zoe Willows, and I'm here with my favorite co-host, Samuel Rivers. Samuel, how's your summer going so far?Oh, Zoe, it's been good. Hot, humid, and, you know, a little too many mosquitoes for my taste, but that's Indiana in July, right? But honestly, I love this time of year at NBBC. There's just so much happening—especially with the sermons this month. Have you seen the lineup?Yeah, I was just looking at it! So, July kicks off with Pastor Dianna diving into Second Kings 5:1-14, all about obedience, humility, and trust. I mean, those are like, the big three when it comes to living out your faith, right?Absolutely. And then the next week, she’s moving into Luke 10:25-37, which is the Good Samaritan story. That one always gets me. It’s such a clear call to see everyone as your neighbor, not just the folks who look or think like you. I think that’s something NBBC really tries to live out, you know?Totally. I mean, every time I walk into the church, it just feels... I don’t know, open? Like, you can just be yourself. And I think that’s part of the vision here—making sure everyone feels welcome, whether it’s Sunday worship or, like, yoga in the Judson Room. It’s not just talk, it’s actually how people act.Yeah, and that reminds me—so, I don’t think I’ve ever told you this, but the first time I ever visited a new church, I was so nervous. I mean, I grew up in a small town, so everyone knew everyone, but when I moved to the city, it was a whole different thing. I remember walking in, and this older gentleman just came right up, shook my hand, and said, “You’re family now.” That stuck with me. And honestly, NBBC gives me that same feeling. It’s not just about the sermons, it’s about the way people show up for each other, week after week.That’s so sweet. And I think it’s why people keep coming back. Like, you can hear a good sermon anywhere, but it’s the community that makes it stick. And, okay, I know I’m rambling, but I just love that the July sermons are all about putting faith into action—obedience, humility, seeing your neighbor. It’s like, the perfect summer reset. Pastor Dianna will be out on July 20th but we will be welcoming Pastor Tom Jackson to the pulpit. Then Pastor Dianna will finish out July with Luke chapter 11 and talking about the happiest place on earth.Speaking of putting faith into action, have you been to one of the community breakfasts yet? They’re on July 5th and August 2nd this summer, and let me tell you, the biscuits and gravy are legendary. But it’s not just about the food—it’s about sitting down with folks you might not see otherwise, sharing stories, and just being together.I went last month! And, okay, I spilled orange juice everywhere, but nobody even blinked. It’s just that kind of vibe. And then there’s God’s Bounty pantry—NBBC serves there the first Thursday of every month. I love that they’re collecting canned pasta this time. It’s such a small thing, but it really adds up for families who need it.Yeah, and it’s not just about giving food, it’s about showing up and serving together. I think we talked about this in a previous episode, but there’s something powerful about rolling up your sleeves with your church family. It’s like, you’re living out those sermons in real time.And then there’s the book club! They’re reading “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan right now. I haven’t joined yet, but I’ve heard the discussions get pretty deep. It’s cool how a book can bring people together, even over Zoom. It’s like, you’re learning, but you’re also building these real connections.Absolutely. And, you know, the Blessing of the Backpacks event is coming up on July 20th. I love that. It’s such a simple gesture, but it means a lot to families—especially the kids heading back to school. It’s like the church is saying, “Hey, we see you, we’re with you, and we’re praying for you.” I’ve seen parents get a little teary at that one.Yeah, it’s one of those things that sticks with you. I mean, I still remember getting a little note in my backpack as a kid, and it just made me feel... I don’t know, safe? Like, someone was rooting for me. That’s what NBBC does for people, in big ways and small.And we can’t forget the celebrations! Pastor Dianna’s ordination is coming up on August 3rd. That’s a huge milestone—not just for her, but for the whole church. I know a lot of folks are excited to celebrate her journey and leadership.And there’s a summer movie night on July 19th! I’m already planning my snack strategy. I mean, is it weird to bring both popcorn and Twizzlers? I don’t think so. But seriously, it’s just another way NBBC brings people together—no pressure, just fun and community.And we’ve got to give a shoutout to all the July birthdays and anniversaries. I always love that NBBC takes time to celebrate people—Liz, Kyllee, Patrick, Carol, Pat, Johnny, Bob, Adrianne, and Kevin, and all the couples with anniversaries including Mark & Sherry, Patrick & Melody, Rob & Julianne, and Phil & Janet. It’s those little touches that make you feel like you belong.Okay, so, quick story—last week at yoga, Barb totally surprised me with a birthday shoutout. I was in the middle of downward dog, and suddenly everyone’s singing. I almost fell over! But it was hilarious, and honestly, it made my whole week. That’s the kind of quirky, unexpected love you get at NBBC.That’s what it’s all about, right? Showing up for each other, celebrating the big stuff and the small stuff. I think that’s why NBBC feels like home for so many people.Yeah, and there’s always something new around the corner.
